Good news! This is not a bug. This is just the relationship between walls and fences/gates.
There is a mod for Java Edition that fixes this, but unfortunately I have not found anything for Bedrock Edition. In the main time, might I suggest replacing the walls with fences, or if you truly like the cobblestone look, just use blocks!
