I can't join anyone else's worlds. When I go to friends it just doesn't show up.

Check your Xbox app, and if that doesn’t work go to settings and manage who can send you invites. Also if a window asks you if you are ok with seeing “undetermined” chat messages, click ok. All I can say is check your Xbox account and make sure it lets you interact with friends.
