When having a map you can not see which direction you are looking and it does not display the icon of the player on the map

In Bedrock Edition, maps crafted without compasses (3x3 all paper) are called Empty Maps and will not show location markers. Empty Locator Maps can be crafted with a 3x3 square outline of paper with a compass in the middle of the crafting table. I'm hoping this may solve your issue.
