Put the summary of the bug you're having here
Upgraded our Minecraft Server Jar to 1.9.2 and restarted server (Using Multicraft)
Noticed several problems right away, which seem to be limited to a radius of roughly 100-200 blocks around the spawn-point for the world....
Some signs now corrupted with what looks like NBT tag / code markup:
from:
THIS IS
A SIGN
now looks like
("Text"," THI
("Text"," A SI
#2 *Nearly all Chests are completely empty (Though inexplicably a small number retained their full contents, no unusual patterns I could detect)
#3 ALL Item frames, and their contained items (Mainly customised maps) are completely gone
Reproduction is difficult as its a specfic world-save issue but if it helps I tried to revert older backups to get our items back and they are all doing the same thing, its as if the new release is interpreting something incorrectly in our world. (But only around the spawn point).
Its not a solution for us to just restart or revert our world back significantly as it has been in use for over two years and is now very important to several members of my group.
Im hoping others have seen this or may have insights - Im happy to respond with additional information as requested.
IMPORTANT POINT: This is not a duplicate report of the old bug regarding losing your items when downgrading to a previous snapshot. - No down-grading or experimenting with snapshots has been done, simply installed 1.9.2 as soon as it was released.
I have not found ANYTHING on the internet that suggests others are having this problem in the last few weeks.....
FINAL POINT: No mods installed, all pure vanilla and always has been....
many thanks 🙂

What do I need to provide? let me know and I'll send whatever you need.
Ive got backups that stretch back over a year - but I've rolled back the server .jar to the most recent pre 1.9 backups and restored the world to a time when I can guarantee that there was no corruption to signs etc BUT.... this problem seems to be rolling back into older backups!? If I go far enough back (over a year) then I start to see entities correctly placed, signs with correct text and chests full again.
I know it sounds like Ive probably not backed up correctly but myself and two others on the SMP server have all witnessed the problem being none existent until the week of the update (And incidentally Multicraft server was upgraded by my server company in the same week - although this is most likely ruled out by my backups being stored separately to ggservers multicraft ftp.)
As a programmer Im clinging to the hope you'll see some pattern in the above that could match a known behaviour of the way the architecture of Minecraft itself or entities are loaded that could lead to me being able to restore a lot of lost construction and data. 🙂
Thanks again for any help, sorry for delay in getting back to you.
Gav
No... always waited for official releases of Minecraft. One other point there is a radius to the missing entities and sign text corruption, seems to be around the original spawn point (But a lot greater than the spawn protection area has ever been set)
cheers
the world folder is around 2gb....is there anything I can do to trim it down (or am I targeting the wrong folder, its the name of my world (and has equivalent _nether and _the_end folders alongside it))
Thanks
Your world has been touched by a modded server, WORLD_nether and WORLD_the_end get made with bukkit servers, not with the vanilla server.jar.
Yes a long time ago we turned on a couple of admin related Bukkit mods (they come bundled into Multi Craft server setups on ggservers) - but - I removed them almost immediately and have not used any mods since since.
cheers
Im sorry but this is not resolved. Ive checked and there are no mods installed on this world. (those folders were just from an old backup)
Please advise on what could have caused the corruption, or at least tell me what to do next. Its not ok to just flag this case as invalid without any other suggestions or basic communication to me.
This is clearly related to the 1.9 update to either the game, which is your domain, or the upgraded server post 1.9, which the framework of SMP sits in which again, is your domain.
Ive got more empirical observations of this issue from myself as the admin and several users of my server than you could shake a stick at if you care to ask or look into my problem deeper. Im not going to stop the investigation any time soon, too much work building over two years in Minecraft to not try and save it.
Thanks,
Gav
It sounds like in the process of updating your server, you managed to corrupt the NBTâž• data. If you have a backup, revert to that and try again. If the problem continues, let me know.
