If I close the game with auto jump disabled when the game opens the auto jump is still on
Comments 10
The autojump resets when you go from 1.10 to a 1.9.x version (or anything different from 1.10), then back to 1.10.
In my opinion autojump should be OFF by default, it's annoying for longtime MCPC players.
A reset by switching to another version isn't how it should be either.
Confirmed for 1.10 release.
Confirmed for 1.10, 1.101.1, 1.10.2.
Steps to reproduce
1. Open MC in 1.10.x
2. Disable Auto Jump
3. Quit the client, close Launcher or keep it open
4a. Open MC in 1.9.x, go into Options menu and click "Done" or
4b. go into Options > Controls menu, you don't have to even click "Done", using "Escape" is enough
5. Quit the client, close Launcher or keep it open
6. Open MC in 1.10.x
7. Auto Jump is automatically enabled again
I hope the following conclusions are correct }=) Means:
I: No matter If you close the Launcher or not, as long as you stay in a 1.10.x version, the auto jump feature remains disabled.
II. It seems that the disabled 1.10.x auto jumo feature stays disabled even if you went in a pre-1.10.x-version, as long as you:
i) either don't go into your Keys Controls settings at all in that pre-1.10-version or
ii) don't click the "Done" button in the general main Options menu, but use Escape instead.
Means you get auto jump feature not only reset by going into the Keys Control (which misses auto jump in pre-1.10), it also resets if you click "Done" in the general main Options menu.
Auto jump stays disabled as long as you hit Escape to return to the Main Screen in a pre-1.10.x-version.
Even if they don't want to fix it so it doesn't reset when you use an earlier MC version, in not only my opinion Auto-Jump should be OFF by Default, at least on the PC version, where moving is not such an issue like on the PE version.
Feature parity is fine, but just content equality as well, according to Microsoft Community Manager Helen, dependant on the technical circumstances such as e.g. limitations, things that can't be egalised across all platforms.
Means we can have the Auto Jump feature disabled per default on PC versions and enabled per default on PE, given the different technical environment and limitations of PE, and freedom of PC.
That's not a valid argument from my perspective because you can turn that argument around.
New players won't notice that it is actually an option and think this is just the weird way one moves in the game, no matter if it can have dangerous consequences like falling off cliffs, walking into lava pits etc., if you misclick your walking keys. Without auto jump and e.g. a block right in front of or beside you you get stopped and have to chose to jump.
I walk on blocks the whole time although I don't want to, after the reset.
I've seen a few bugs related to the auto jump feature, and who knows when they'll be fixed, so by having that option enabled can be rather discouraging for new players if they run into problems due to that.
New players might have to set their controls for other keys and will get to know about the auto jump feature by then.
As you can clearly read in the responses, auto jump is annoying for longtime PC players, and I don't see why one should assume new players would be not so smart to figure it out, IF - only if - they'd prefer auto jump, which I argue is not the case for most players, except maybe on PE.
I know you mods can't do anything about it, so if I sound "rant'y" in any way, then it's about menot liking Mr. Bergensten's decision (or whoever made it), not against you mods.
And although it won't help as they seem to have made their decision anyway, and although I'm annoyingly meta maybe, I had to say it.
I really dislike the auto jump feature being enabled per default.
In my opinion in-game options should be stored in profile, so changing version in that profile wouldn't affect them.
One profile could store options from multiple minecraft versions, like alternative blocks from old ones or autojump from new one at the same time.
Now changing profile to profile with older version affects some options of previous profile.
Also the "new profile" button could copy game options from current selected profile, like it does with version etc.
This is not a feature request. This is proposal of way of fixing this bug.
