disabling shields with axes doesn't work

this is not MC-99688
in 16w36a, and PROBABLY 16w38a (haven't checked, using 36a until a certain bug is fixed), hitting a shield with an axe (sprinting or not) does not disable the shield (no white thing draining) ever. could be related to the change to no melee damage from front while blocking.
