i forgot to add but the textures were constantly flashing and disappearing and being colors they shouldn't

Modded servers are not supported here.

Also, 1.9.4 is no longer supported, try again with the latest stable version 1.10.2. Also, this graphical glitch usually occurs with outdated graphics card drivers.
