Mobs behind me never make sounds

Mobs get quieter as I turn away from them, and if I'm facing a direction more than 90 degrees off, they are totally silent. In other words, I have a 180-degree deaf zone behind me. So when a creeper comes up behind me, I can't hear the fuse-burning sound, making it pointless for that sound to exist. And pointless to play Minecraft, since I'm just going to keep getting blown up by unavoidable creepers. Even the creeper's explosion was silent.
This also silences sounds from other things, like lava and water.
This bug makes Minecraft unplayable.

This sounds like an issue with your system's sound settings!
I've just checked the www, and found an article which states, that Minecraft is able to use surround sound!!

If your system has "5.1" enabled, but you are only using your headphones, than this might be the issue.

Could you check this please? 🙂

OK, you're right. But it's really weird though because my computer has always had 2.1 speakers, not surround sound, and I never changed the settings, nor allowed anyone else to use my computer. It should have defaulted to the correct setting when I installed the drivers, but somehow it was on the 4 speakers setting.

hehe, you just said it: driver defaults!

Is this still an issue in the most recent versions (currently that is 1.11) of Minecraft? If so, please update the affected versions and help us keeping this ticket updated from time to time. If you are the owner/reporter of this ticket, you can modify the affected version(s) yourself.

Well, this ISN'T a bug... It's more a feature, that works as intended. 🙂

When you enable surround sound, but plugin only Headphones, then the rear channels are missing.

Actually, it should be fixed still.
