I was logged into my Minecraft Realm and was suddenly kicked with "server closed" I checked to make sure that the servers were not down and that I have a current subscription. Once I rejoin, I was at the original spawn (I moved the spawn chunks) with not items. I travelled back to my ocean monument base and it was full of hostile mobs.
The Minecraft wiki states that hostile mobs do not spawn in ocean monuments and I checked the update page to see if a changed had happened. I moved away over 120 blocks to make sure all the mob despawned incase it was a single time problem, but on returning hostile mobs spawned again
I could not recreate this issue in Single player

Hostile Mob should not spawn inside Ocean Monument..
This is a direct quote from the Official Minecraft Wiki
'Guardians are the only hostile mobs able to spawn within the 58×58×23 area containing the monument; normal Overworld hostile mobs will not spawn inside.'
The fact that hostile mob did not spawn inside an Ocean Monument in a single player world, but they do spawn inside an Ocean Monument is realms clearly shows there is a bug.
I agree with the original poster here. Hostile mobs have never and should never spawn within the bounding box of an ocean monument. The only spawns should be guardians and bats. If this has changed, was it announced? Was this a one-time-bug?

Why so? Besides, I suspect this ticket is a structure corruption issue anyway.
I modified the terrain generation for the map I was using (ocean level 40). Something happened and the world crashed and reset back to the default generation. However all the chunks that had been loaded were using the old generation and new unexplored chunks used the new generation.. I found large walls of water and terrain mismatch on the edge of chucks. This in turn kept the ocean monument where it was, but used the new generation for the mob spawning algorithm. I had no idea how to fix it so I just deleted the world and restarted.
Hostile mobs spawn in every overworld biome (except for mushroom island) with light leve 7 or less, in air blocks and alike.
They spawned there since the conditions were met.
