Nether portal not being reused for return in 1.11.1

This was fixed some time ago.
When you return from the nether it should use the one and only gate you created to go to the nether. Instead, a gate is created a distance away in the real world. That gate is used for subsequent returns unless it is destroyed, in which case another portal is created, In my case, that was in a cave roughly 30 blocks below the second gate.

This was fixed some time ago.

If it was fixed, why did you create this ticket?

What I am saying is that there is a problem introduced in 1.11.1 which is similar to a problem which I experienced in a previous release. (I don't remember which release.) A subsequent release did not have the problem and that is what I mean by "this was fixed some time ago." On reflection, it may not have been intentionally fixed, it may just have been fixed by some other change to the code.

Please, with the F3 screen open, provide screenshots of the portal you initially created in the overworld, where it ended up in the nether and where the first return portal was created. Please also provide the seed to your world.

The seed is -1485064554143279426. I'll upload the screen captures shortly.

The first captures the key. The second is my original overworld portal. The third and fourth are in the nether, the fifth is the other overworld portal. There is another portal, underground in the overworld, which was created when I destroyed the return portal, but I can't find the stairway I used to return to the surface from there. Afterward, I repaired the above ground return portal (and enclosed it to prevent surprises.)

I'm currently experiencing the same issue on the latest Xbox one version (updated 1/13/17). The only portal in the over world I've made takes me to the nether correctly, but traveling from the nether-side portal creates a new portal in the over world. I've tried destroying both of the portals in the over world and resetting the nether, as well as destroying the portals, moving the existing one, and resetting the nether, all to no avail.

This looks like intended behaviour.

The original overworld portal at -202,541 should link to nether coords -25,67 however that area was obstructed and the portal was created at -9,80. So when you travel back to the overworld, the new portal is at -72,640. The distance is >128 blocks from the new location to the old location (it is 163 and outside of the search radius) so a new portal is created.

Yep; that was the problem. I tunneled to the right X coordinate in the nether, created a cave and moved the nether portal there and it works as expected. I'm surprised I've only run into this on the two occasions; it must be unusual to find an area in the nether in which this is the case.
