Falling into sand/gravel blocks on ocean floor

On occasion I have dropped into the ocean floor. It seems to be related to sand and gravel.
Once sunk I am not able to rise for air. I have to break the blocks.
Of course, this could be a new feature....

Could you attach video of the bug in action (or upload it elsewhere and provide a link)?

I've never done that but I'll try.

The way ive been able to do this is make n area of water 1 block deep with sand or gravel on the bottom, start swimming an press the sprint key and u will sink into the ground. It maybe the same thing occurring on the bottom of the floor

I believe Warren is pretty right.
I have discovered that this happens when standing on the bottom and then swimming either by "sprint" or double-tap forward. It doesn't have to be one block deep, it can be more.
I believe that there is another way that swimming can be initiated (unintentionally) by interacting with flowing water but I am not sure what actually has to happen to cause to cause swimming.
I've only been able to "get vertical" by digging the blocks beneath me or by "swimming" off a ledge if one happens to be around.

this is an intended feature, you simply look up and press w to get out.

@unknown I don't think this is intentional. I can imagine this happening because of switching to the swim-animation, which also changes the hitbox for a splitsecond, causing the player to get stuck in the ground.

It appears that looking up and pressing w does get you unstuck.
IMHO, it seems like being able to stand up or crouch should always work, not just most of the time.

Does this still affect 1.13-pre5.

Please keep the affected versions list up-to-date.
