To reproduce:
1. Place a block that can have water in it (e.g: stone slab)
2. Place water in that block
3. Place a sponge adjacent to the block
The entire block (slab included) is removed, rather than just the waterlogged state being set to false.

@maggstrom - that doesn't appear to be the same issue. This problem is that sponge blocks delete waterlogged blocks (sponge should not break the blocks), that issue is that waterlogged blocks don't leave behind water when broken.
This could also relate to MC-122171
Same problem as in [MC-126908]
