Overlapping Minecarts make noises when they aren't supposed to

The bug

When you put two minecarts directly next to each other, so that they are compressing each other (see picture below) and break the rails beneath them they will make a noise as if they are riding around on a track. Also, it's very quiet and doesn't create subtitles

Can confirm, they do.

EDIT: Do not know if this belongs here, but if Minecarts manage to get glitched INTO each other, and there is a lot of them, the sound begins to loop and is very loud, and it makes all other sounds begin to "cut out" until you destroy the carts. Sorry if this is the wrong bug to mention this though. 😞

No need to destroy the rails, the minecarts are making a faint sound also when on rails.

Also happens on Minecraft 1.7.4, but only happens when riding them.

Look at MC-69691 for another case.

Not sure if this belongs here, but entering/breaking a minecart in 1.8 also plays the minecart sound for a split second.

In 1.11 minecarts make this sound only if the rail is facing east (or west is the same)

Confirmed for 1.13.1.

Can confirm in 1.19.2 they make noise when overlapping. They only do this when facing North/South for me.

Note that they can be next to each other like this as well

Can confirm in 1.21 Pre-release 2.

Fixed in the 24w33a+ minecart experiment. Collision is much better, and the minecart sounds stop when the cart is stationary. The fix could have come along side MC-275241.
