Client freezes if a nearby player swims in water while flying with elytra

The bug

If a player uses its elytra to fly into water and simultaneously tries to swim, it will have a buggy animation for other players around it and eventually freeze their clients so that they need to force the game to close and restart it.

To reproduce

  1. Player A and Player B are on a server and can see each other

  2. Player A activates their elytra and jumps into a deep enough water pond while pressing Ctrl (or whatever sprint is bound to)

  3. Player B will observe Player A constantly switching between flight and swimming animation

  4. Player B's client freezes eventually

You attached the game output log. We need the crash report. If you don't know how to get it, use @unknown's link.

There is no crash report. As the issue states, the game simply freezes and hangs until it is force closed and reopened. This means the game is not crashing cleanly and it is not outputting a stack trace into a crash log. Please reopen, thanks.

Apologies. Sounds like a really critical issue then.

Tested it myself and attached a video of this happening. The player with the elytra doesn't seem to get kicked, even if they're in F5 mode.

The flying animation while swimming is completely bugged as well, maybe that's got something to do with that freeze.

I've rewritten your report and simplified the reproduction steps, I hope you're fine with that.

Absolutely! Thanks! I appreciate your work on this issue.

I can experience the animation being buggy, but no performance hit to either the server or two clients. I am not able to reproduce this.

Okay, scratch that, another recent fix made this harder to confirm. I've identified the cause.

Here is my crash report of my having replicated the bug with a friend on a 19w13b server
