Still in 1.14.2 Pre-Release 1 and 1.14.2 Pre-Release 2

Can confirm in 21w05b.

Can confirm in 1.17.1. Here is an alternate method of reproducing this issue:

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Create a scoreboard objective for tracking when you kill a mob and set it to display on the sidebar.

/scoreboard objectives add MobKills minecraft.custom:minecraft.mob_kills
/scoreboard objectives setdisplay sidebar MobKills
  • Obtain a sword and summon a creeper.

  • Kill the creeper using the sword.

  • → ✔  Notice how the scoreboard increases.

  • Obtain a flint and steel and summon another creeper.

  • Use the flint and steel on the creeper to make it detonate.

  • → ❌  Notice how the scoreboard doesn't increase therefore indicating that minecraft.custom:minecraft.mob_kills doesn't increase when killing a creeper through the use of a flint and steel.

Can confirm in 1.18.2 and 22w18a.

Feature perhaps, you don't even kill the Creeper, just igniting it as TNT.

In a word, ignite =/= kill.

Possibly is, seeing as it doesn't do a death animation, but you'll need a Mojang source saying so.

Can confirm in 1.19.

Can confirm in 1.19.2.
