Powered rails are supposed to stop a mine cart, however they never in Minecraft's history stopped it to the point pressing W not even moving it. on unpowered rails you cannot move at all, you glitch forward. On regular rails which let you move freely before it's now the same speed as how normal unpowered rails should be. You can recreate this by placing 3 powered rails with no power down then at least 10 rails and you will see that it moves slow as hell. This issue is game breaking for me because I have been working on a map of New York Cities subway system everyday all day since September 2018, I hope this issue is a bug and not a feature because I will probably smash my computer and isolate myself for weeks. I have already completed 80ish of its ~450 stations and going back and changing the tracks on them will takes weeks. How can players reliably play the game if blocks like rails are changed destroying entire projects?

Not fixed in 1.14.2

Still an issue in 1.14.3.
Not fixed in 1.14.4
Still present as of 19w34a snapshot.
Can confirm. On unpowered rails, the minecart seems to be able to move a few centimeters, but then stops. Even when the rails are then powered, the minecart will not be able to move if the player presses forwards or backwards.
A related issue is that you cannot "push" a mine cart off of powered rails without looking in front of the cart at a specific (roughtly 45 degree) angle either to its left or right, whereas previously you could just face forward. Minecarts in general now move much slower.
I really don't understand why any of this changed.
Not fixed in 19w40a.
Not fixed in 1.15. This has been an issue for most of the year, how has this not been even looked at!?
It has been looked at. Confirmation status is set to "Confirmed".
Still not fixed in 20w06a.
This is one issue and along with MC-169854 it caused a lot of problems for me. I'm thus forced to stay with 1.12.2.
Updated affected versions accordingly.
(copied comment from MC-169854)
I have a large train system and I used to rely on minecart mechanics. I was able to composit "trains" from up to 5 minecarts (optimal 4) and one rideable minecart for pushing the other minecarts. On 1.12.2 (my previous version), it behaves correctly. Now I facing this issues:
I cannot move with singe rideable minecart
I'm no longer able to push other minecarts on unpowered rails (I need those in stations, because of kick-off glitch when two minecarts colide)
Behaviour of minecarts from 1.12.2 and previous versions was just fine. My question is: will new behaviour become new standard (then I will stay with 1.12.2) or its a bug that will be resolved later on (thus I can upgrade)?
Almost a year later - still not fixed. Still present in snapshot 20w13b

The real question is: did he really smash his computer and is that why he hasn't updated this ticket again?
Poor man, it's going to be 3 versions without a fix.
Still not fixed in 20w18a.
Still not fixed over a year later, present in 20w20b.
Not fixed in 20w22a.
Not fixed in 1.16pre2.
Not fixed in 1.16rc1, because of course it's not.
Not fixed in 1.16. Two major versions and still not fixed - why?
Affects 1.16.3
Can confirm in 20w51a.
Affects 21w17a
Affects 1.17
Affects 1.17.1, because of course it does, why wouldn't it. Three major versions and two years!
Affects 21w40a
Still an issue in 1.19.4, after four full years. If this bug was a child it'd be walking and talking by now.
Affects 1.21, here is a video showcasing the issue:

When the player turns their camera 45* to the side, they can move forward.
Fixed in the 24w33a+ minecart experiment:

I completely agree with this and hope it gets resolved. I have a massive rail network in my world that this update has all but broken. Why change the cart mechanics at all when they were basically fine?!
