It's not a mistake, it should be. Pearl gives damage when falls on the entity, and so he hits the trolley, and the trolley a little XP

Can confirm. The minecart will not even drop.

I believe this to be a side effect of boats being instantly destroyed whenever someone in creative mode deals damage to it, and since ender pearls deal damage to other entities when you throw them at them, this would count for boats also.
