This used to work before. Is it a bug or intentional change?

It would be clearer to attach screenshots using the default texture pack (instead of a custom one). Also I don't recall fence gates (or door-like blocks) ever having provided redstone power (though they can be opened with redstone); are you sure that you weren't using a mod or data pack at the time, and which version did it work in?
