Entity shadows don't display properly on transparent blocks

The bug

If an entity is standing on top of blocks with a translucent texture, that entity's shadow will "cut out" the blocks it is standing on.

 Can confirm this bug.  The shadow is shown twice. once on top of the block and once below.

Also affects shulker boxes, see MC-164223.
