If lava is viewed through an ice block, you can't always see it. The top of the lava is visible, but the sides and bottom aren't. I'm not sure if this is intentional, but it looks a bit weird.
Also, this only happens when the ice is placed directly next to the block. If it's further away, it looks fine and the sides and bottom show up.

Its not visually transparent, but if you apply a opaque texture to, say, ice you still get the affect of transparent blocks. See attached image.
