villagers refuse to pick up a profession when nearby a profession block, and zombie villagers with professions will all lose their professions when purified.

I've brought 2 villagers from a village to another location(one was employed(farmer) and one was unemployed). Neither of them became a librarian after I placed a lectern and waited a whole in-game day, while the unemployed villager stayed and stared in one corner the entire day. The same cannot be said after I killed the two villagers and spawned 2 new ones in with a spawn egg.
What time of day is it? Villagers are only able to change jobs during certain times of the day.
