iTunes randomly launches while playing minecraft

while playing minecraft iTunes will randomly launch. it only happens while playing minecraft

Minecraft has no control over this, so it cannot be a Minecraft issue.

than why does it only launch on it's own while i'm playing minecraft?

Probably because some key combination you push while playing Minecraft is also set to launch iTunes? That would be a setting specific to iTunes, or your operating system, and once again, has nothing to do with Minecraft.

but i don't have a key combination set to launch iTunes.

i'd like this issue to be reopened

Minecraft, being a java application, cannot forcibly launch another application. Is it possible that a key you press in game is some kind of media key (ex play, pause) which triggers iTunes to be launched?

You can't generally prove a negative. It's up to you, or one of the other people experiencing this problem, to prove that Minecraft is causing it, rather than OS X, Java, iTunes, or something else.

But it's extremely unlikely that any code in Minecraft is explicitly telling iTunes to launch. That wouldn't happen by accident. What's more likely is that iTunes is attempting to intercept a call to play a specific sound or music file. Or that it's already running, and popping up due to a key command or drawing area management issue. The issue may seem specific to Minecraft because of its unusual environment: Java, LWJGL, OpenGL, etc. Minecraft is likely to be the only software you use that uses the libraries it does.

This is the only ticket on the Mojira about this issue, and it has no votes. If this were a remotely common issue, there would be duplicates, or more people commenting. I think it's safe to say that most people who play Minecraft on a Mac who also have iTunes installed do not experience this issue. The only relevant Google search results I can find are this ticket, and this thread.

For this issue to be looked at any closer, and to have even the remotest chance of being solved, you're going to have to provide more information, and preferably demonstrate the issue. Is iTunes already running in the background when this happens? Is there anything in common about the occurrences, such as the frequency, the things happening in Minecraft at the time? Does it happen when you're not pushing any keys, or using the mouse? Does it happen when moving, mining, interacting with the gui, paused? Does it happen during the Minecraft day, night, or at the transitions between the two? Can you get a video of it happening?

how can i prove it if you won't listen.

Hi Torabi, thanks for your comments on this rare issue. I don't think it is Minecraft either, I am looking for a community of users that shares this trouble, so I can possibly find the cause, and a solution.
As you have seen, there is not much info available on the interweb about this strange issue, so I am glad to see at least some conversation here.
I can do some more recon at home to see what is happening here - I am basically the IT sysadmin there (Unix background), where I have others that actually play minecraft on the macbook. They are very diligent about their approach to game startup:

  • Quit or Force Quit all other applications

  • start minecraft

  • play minecraft

  • if iTunes happens to start, then quit iTunes

  • resume playing minecraft

I will talk more in-depth with the gamers at home to see if they are noticing anything common in when iTunes starts up when compared to what they are doing in the game. AFAIK, we don't have any custom key-binding to start iTunes, but that is something I will do more investigation on. If I find something like that, I hope you don't mind if I post that here for the others to share. Also, I could put such a tip on my blog so as not to clutter up your Jira - I'll bet that you guys have way bigger fish to fry, so thanks much for offering this advice!

I just want mention that this is a problem that I keep having. Have not resolved this issue. It is aggravating that no one else can figure out a solution also!
