When magma cubes enter lava or fall into it, they don't swim in the lava in any way, or even act like it's a block. They simply hover it and begin rapidly bouncing, though not like they normally do. They do not even submerge into the lava. Images may not be that good, but feel free to reproduce the bug by watching a magma cube enter the lava.

No no, I understand they are fire-resistant! It's the fact that they are literally floating above the lava. They are not floating in the lava, they are floating about a block or half a block above the lava. They are not even in the lava.

I don't think this is intended. The actual problem is magma cubes flying above the lava without touching it, not the ability to swim in it. It look terrible and is inconsistent with slimes swimming in water. I have also noticed that slimes with fire resistance swim properly in lava.
Magma Cubes are fire-resistant, which means they can float in lava. This is intended.
