When riding a pig with carrot on stick, other pigs follow you too.

To recreate, spawn a few pigs, then get a saddle + carrot on stick, ride one of the pigs for a while, and all of a sudden the other pigs start following you too, with or without a saddle.

I expected the carrot on a stick to have individual movement control, I didn't expect it to be the equivalent of a carrot to other pigs, making them all follow the one that is holding the rod while riding a pig.

This breaks the opportunity to hold events such as pig-races, because the pigs simply follow one player if close enough, even if everybody is riding his own pig and holding his own rod.

I could confirm this behavior in both single player and multiplayer, I am not aware of any similar bug reports after searching around for a bit on here, thus I made this report.

I don't think this is a bug 'eh? Pigs are interested in carrots and only sitting on one pig does not mean your carrot is invisible for other pigs 🙂

Yeah, they really thought that one out, it renders pigs totally useless as a mount because they are glitchy, slow and not maneuverable... And then this.

If Mojang would have the tiniest bit of sympathy for its SMP community (which is by far the majority), they would add a game-rule that would disable this "intended behavior".

Confirmed, probably works as intended, but:
Tenebrae: That's assuming the same thing happens with multiple people holding carrots on sticks. I can't test this on SMP, if you can test it out with friends and there are issues then you can say pig racing is impossible. But until such time:

It seems possible to me, and done before. Had this been an issue, wouldn't it have been an issue from the very beginning?

You aren't talking to an idiot here. I simply write down what I observe, and yes I had observed this behavior on SMP at first, and later I tested it on single player to confirm the problem.

Instead of acting like a know-it-all, maybe you should look-up that great search you neatly prepared for me and point me to a video where you can see several players pig racing next to each other on the same track without a single disruption.

If you are capable of doing that, I will hold my mouth and accept it.

I understand.

Will features and improvement suggestions ever be tracked here on this website in the future?

Pretty surely no. r/MinecraftSuggestions and the Minecraft Forums do a good job of it already.

I'll give those a go then. Thanks 🙂
