Bee hives not spawning on player-grown trees in final 1.15.2 release

I upgraded my 1.14.4 world to 1.15.2 (final release version) earlier this year and have become interested in trying out the new bee feature.

Problem is finding the little buzzers and I read on the Minecraft wiki that trees planted by the player have a 5% chance of spawning a bee nest.

But I've had no luck with this and feel like I am wasting bonemeal and time.

I have also read in reddit and youtube comments that this was a one-off feature from the snapshots/pre-release versions that got removed from the final 1.15.2 release?

If this is true, I may be left with either exploring unloaded chunks in my world or just spawning it in my village via creative mode.

Hoping to get some clarification and closure on this 🙂

EDIT: I tried it out in a creative world and caused it to happen and when I returned to my regular survival world and planted a tree near a flower, a bee nest spawned. Now I have a nice group of bees!

The saplings have to be at most 2 blocks from a flower, and you can't be on Peaceful mode.

Does it work when close to a flower like this? Also, my world is on normal difficulty.. and I do not whether I am having bad luck or if it could be a bug regarding the chunk I am in (Have lived in this village area since 1.14.4).

I should note that we only accept reports that can be reproduced in vanilla (no mods used), as mods (and Minecraft Forge) can change vanilla game behavior.
