Chunk sized lighting glitch with floating nether portal over water

I was flying far in the nether and at about x 1000 I created a portal to go back to the overworld.

When I went through the portal spawned floating above a warm ocean biome and appeared to be creating a lighting glitch, where a purple glaze is projected in exactly a chunk.

Reopening the world did not help.
