Master villagers switch professions and lose my progress

I couldn't find all my villagers.  I had raised several to Master status, and now they're gone.  I'd already walled off the village, slept in a bed every night to avoid them getting killed by monsters, and I've kept the bed count well below 20 to avoid random destructive events.  I have the same number of villagers, but I have some level 1 villagers that I didn't have before.  It seems that Master-level villagers are changing professions and ruining all the hard work I put into raising them to maximum level.  This needs to stop.  Once I start leveling up villagers, they should not change professions, otherwise, why level them up?

Also, I was having problems with some of my villagers not showing up at all - is there a maximum number of villagers that the game can handle at one time?  If so, that needs to be removed, or a toggle control built into the preferences page.  I've got 32 GB of RAM, I can handle the overhead.

Thanks for responding.  However, MC-153904 was opened on 06/05/2019, over a year ago.  Perhaps you can convince the programmers to fix this with all due speed, since it's labeled as "Unresolved" and "Very Important"?  Will it be fixed in version 1.16 stable release, as the first Minecraft 1.16 Pre Release is being teased now, as I type this?  If the devs can't fix this, why are they releasing new versions at all?  Not jumping on you personally, but this is a very bad bug, and after a year, it should be resolved, or at least being worked on by all the devs at once to get it fixed.

Thanks again for responding.  As I said, this isn't your fault, this is the developer's fault for letting this go so long without a fix.

The vast majority of users do not experience this issue while interacting with villagers, only a handful, which makes this a lot more difficult to track. Mojang is looking into it, but so far haven't been able to resolve it - though some potential mitigation was put in place, so this may be less of an issue in the upcoming 1.16 for you.

Would it be helpful if I sent you a copy of my saved game, since it's definitely had the problem?  I can do that.

I can also give the team some advice.  When I play, I play for hours on end.  I pause to eat and do other things, but the game stays on, for up to 10 - 12 hours at a time.  This could be a memory overflow issue, so the easy way to find this bug is to output every change in the internal variables that govern the villagers.  It could be that long playtimes may be causing corruption in the memory or in the villager variables.
