I have tried to host a server on my Windows 8 computer, but when trying to join, both from outisde my network or inside with 'localhost' I get "Can't reach server".
I then tried to host the exactly same .jar and .exe files on my little Windows XP machine instead, which works great.

Win 8 here, no problems connecting to my server. Check you firewall/network settings. For technical support please use the Mojang Support Center.
As said, I can't even join typing in 'localhost', so ports/network isnt a problem. Just tried to deactivate my firewall, still had the same issue.
I have tried dissabling every running program, including my antivirus, and it still says the same.
This works perfectly fine in our office and makes me believe you have some weird firewall settings that are causing issues.
But I just tried to dissable it.. Nothing else that can cause this? Nothing special you changed in the update?
I found out that there was something wrong with my server.properties. But I can't find the problem?
Check out the attached file, try host a 1.6 server with that and see if it works.
You're using a non-standart port: server-port=25567
, standart is 25565
If you want to connect to a non standard port you have to specificaly tell it to connect to that port through IP:PORT
or LOCALHOST:PORT
This is happening to a lot of people upgrading from 1.5.2 to 1.6.1 including me. Everything was working on 1.5.2 including ports, but the 1.6.1 update has made it that anybody trying to connect will get the message "Can't reach server". But the owner can access his on server with the ip 'localhost'
I'm on Windows 7 btw
Can you host a 1.5.2 server on your computer?
