Prior to this version, one could override the fence blocks' tendency to auto-attach to nearby solids by using the /fill command, creating a freestanding wooden stick/pillar object—quite a useful feature considering no comparable block exists for creating tables, stools, things of that nature without them becoming attached to the very walls they were supposed to be separate from. Apparently this feature has been removed in the most recent update and fences will always auto-attach to the nearest blocks even when /fill-ed.
While on its face this may have been a "bug", I find it hard to believe that anyone legitimately using the /fill command when creating individual fenceposts with the intent of using them normally wouldn't just create them the old fashioned way by selecting from inventory and right clicking. Thus I propose a reversal of this update, giving us creative players more flexibility with how we use fenceposts by allowing us once again to use the /fill command to override the fence's auto-attach tendency.
I appreciate any advice you may provide on this matter, as there were many projects I was building that relied on this mechanic that I will no longer be able to execute.

Hi there!
I can confirm this; I also can confirm it with walls and glass panes. You can still modify each individual fence/wall/glass pane by using a debug stick, but it's way more time-consuming and I think that this should really be patched soon (if it's a bug).
