The bug
Whenever I try to make a powered or activator rail powered using commands, nothing happens.
I've tried using a Debug Stick, doing /setblock ~ ~ ~ powered_rail[powered=true]
, and even put that command in a repeating command block and nothing happened.

Can confirm in 20w46a.
Can confirm in 20w51a.
Can confirm in 21w03a.

Can confirm in 1.17 Release Candidate 1. By the way, this also applies to redstone torches. Looks like that last remark is already reported as MC-141297. Sorry, it's really hard to find bugs on blockstates for some reason.
Not really related to that (nor most others it is marked as related to); the rail does set the state, but immediately changes the state to what the game would normally have it in as if manually placed, rather than just refusing to set the state. And that's not even considering that all those reports started in 1.16, whereas this is much older.
I'd like to request ownership of this issue, as it has not been touched by the original reporter since it's creation. Relates to MC-194722
Do I need to touch the issue? All that changes is the current version
From previous comments I have seen made by moderators, it is advised to keep up your own reports up to date in newer versions of the game to avoid needing helpers/moderators to add affected versions, or to make changes to the report as needed. Considering you had not updated the report in 4 years, I had requested ownership to do so. If you have the report covered though, it's not necessary I have ownership.

Fixed in 25w02a.

Sadly, I don't think Mojang acknowledge bugs related to the debug sticks usage
