World saves inventory but not world changes

I just started a realm and it will save my personal inventory and any changes I make to it, but the world will revert to save point when i started the realm. I can pick up a iteam from a chest walk reload the game, have the iteam in my hand as well as still in the chest where it was. I cant build anything because it just reverts back to how it was.
