Arrrr, so pesky! By the way, I hope this will be fixed. It give me many problems with the searching

I would have to say that's an oops. Gravel should probably be the target for change since so many others reference Cobblestone as Pebbles.

..\.minecraft\bin\minecraft.jar\lang\en_PT.lang

...
tile.stonebrick.name=Pebbles
...
tile.gravel.name=Pebbles
...
tile.stoneSlab.cobble.name=Slab o' Pebbles
...
tile.stoneMoss.name=Slimy Pebbles
...
tile.monsterStoneEgg.cobble.name=Silvr'kipper Pebbles
...
tile.cobbleWall.mossy.name=Wall o' Mossy Pebbles
...
achievement.buildFurnace.desc=Build yerself an oven wit' eight pieces o' pebbles

I say call it the old term of "pay dirt".

Here's other alternate names: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravel#Types

I'm not an "original english" so I can't tell the right way a pirate would spell it XD

Can you suggest it?

This "bug" affects versions >= 1.2 prerelease.

Translations issues can be fixed by yourself at http://crowdin.net/project/minecraft/en-PT , it's not an issue for the bug tracker.
The special "pebbles-"issue is more or less fixed at crowdin.net and will be integrated in the game when Mojang pulls the translations from there.

People who are doing the Crowdin project with Mojang are trying to improve the game's option of languages
