Opened up Minecraft on 1.16.2 and the thing in the images happened. i restarted mc and it didnt change. Went to a different version (1.12.2) and it still didnt change. I reset my laptop to see if that did anything but it didnt. I wasn't using any mods or texture packs when it happened.

I have images of it happening in 1.16.2 as well.
I also dont know what you mean when you said 'Please make sure to run older versions in separate folders.'
You need to create a new issue and attach the 1.16.2 images there.

All images were taken using 1.12.2. Downgrading is not, was never and will never be officially supported. Please make sure to run older versions in separate folders.
