MC-200282

Players with knockback resistance cannot be knocked off of edges when sneaking

After the fix of MC-2404, players with knockback resistance (specifically above ~0.2%) seem unable to be knocked off of the edge of blocks by normal hits when they are shifting / sneaking.

As a cause of this, you only need a single piece of netherite armor to be immune of dangerous falls when attacked by mobs or players in any way, which doesn't seem to be intentional.

How to reproduce

  1. Create a void world.

  2. Equip any piece of netherite armor.

  3. Summon a skeleton close to the edge of the stone platform and let it shoot at you.

  4. Sneak, and notice how the skeleton doesn't knock you into the void.

The bug appears to also affect players without any knockback resistance. When hit by a high knockback item while shifting at the edge of a block, you will receive no knockback. To reproduce, simply shift at the edge of a block and have another player hit you with a knockback 2 sword.
