Candles not affected by gravity

If you put down a candle, you can destroy the block it is on and it will still exist. You can also build them sideways/upside down (which can mean long bridges/columns of unsupported candles). I have no idea if this is intentional or not, but it doesn't make much sense if it is, seeing as most similar blocks (torches, sea pickles, etc.) cannot do this.
