When breaking a block under the candles they are not destroyed, but float.
You can also place the candles on top of each other and also next to each other with no block underneath them.

Hey, I can confirm.

This is unlike sea pickles where they can't be placed in the air.

While I can understand that this seems like a bug and is inconsistent with similar blocks, it's such a useful "feature", it'd be a shame to see it fixed.

Probably a feature request, since MC-178791 was a feature request.

So... what's the bug? A lot of blocks in Minecraft don't need supporting blocks. (for example flower pots, end rods, daylight sensors, etc.) Why should candles be any different?

If it will be fixed, many decorations will be more difficult to build

I'm pretty sure many people will be disappointed if this gets "fixed". Preferably just keep it as an unintentional feature.

When I saw this "bug" I instantly thought that you can finally build a magical castle with floating candles. Would be cool, but obviously it is an inconsistency with other such blocks... Maybe make them placable on string then at least. That would give the builders a workaround, but be consistent otherwise.

Works as Intended

if this gets changed then *sad grain noises*
This is still WAI. https://twitter.com/kingbdogz/status/1331641881256730626

I'm sorry, I also created this "loophole". But I feel that candles and torches are similar, and they are the same size for lighting.
我很抱歉,我也创建了这个“漏洞”。但我感觉,蜡烛和火把差不多,都是用来照亮的一种大小一样的。
