If your horse has a potion effect, you won't be able to check about it if you try to check your horse inventory.

The minecraft wiki doesn't know if that's a bug, or it's just work as intended. Just let the Mojang guys (or moderators) to talk about this.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
...and if I'm riding a pig, I can't see its potion effects either. But to do that, it would require new code. Therefor, this would be a new feature, and is an Invalid Suggestion.

Umm you can check out a horse and a pig's inventory, so maybe you should be able to check out its effects. This can be like a bug report and a suggestion. It's part bug report because as you can check out a horse/pig's inventory, you should be able to check out its effects.
This is intentional:

"As of the current snapshot, effects can only be seen on the horses through the particles, not through accessing the inventory of a horse, like effects would appear in a player's inventory menu."
