Breaking long grass and then continuing to break the grass it was on without releasing the mouse click allows the block to be mined, but it will reappear directly after breaking without giving a block. Using a tool decreases the durability of the tool which can be seen by mining the same block repeatedly. This durability is restored upon breaking a different block.
*What I expected to happen was that I would break the long grass and then mine the grass block without ending the mousclick
*What happened was the block reappeared repeatedly after mining it until the mouse click was released.
*UPDATE*
Also works with other non-solid block/solid block combinations, for example breaking a torch and then mining a fence post.

Works fine for me in 1.4.3pre. Also singleplayer/multiplyer shouldn't really make a difference anymore as singleplayer is using a local sever, too. It may be lag-related, though.
YES! Someone reported this, was going to report myself, this is very annoying when opening large grass spaces, if you accidentally hit the tall grass on top of a grass block, the grass block under it will break but immediatly appear back - forever. Until you RELEASE the mouse button and start again.
Easy to simulate: go on digging nonstop (never release the mouse button, just move), as long as you always aim/hit grass, it's fine, if you hit the tall grass and then any grass block (doesn't need to be the one under the tall grass) it will animate breaking as normal, but when it shoud vanish and drop the block, it will appear back again. Will do this forever unless you release the mouse button and start all over again.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
Can't reproduce in singleplayer. Was this on a server at all?
