Axolotls Not Spawning In 1.17?

Simply put, I have been flying around a world in spectate for about 30 minutes, and have not encountered any of the Lush Trees that would lead to the caves where Axolotls are, and I have not seen any underground either. Am I getting extremely unlucky or is something going on with these spawns?

The azalea trees are not a part of world generation in 1.17.

Okay, so then how are axolotls found in survival?

I have still found nothing. It has been an hour of flying around multiple worlds.

Alright, so:
I was able to find them but I think there is still an issue.
I was in specator. When I switched to creative. I saw fish and stuff spawning in the ocean.
I dont know if that is intentional, but that is what allowed me to find Axolotl.

Hey!

In part 1 of 1.17, cave generation for the most part won't be added. This means that azalea trees will not spawn. They will be added in part 2 of 1.17. You can download the full Caves and Cliffs datapack, which is included in the patch notes of all recent snapshots. Axolotls can only spawn with spawn eggs, and therefore won't spawn.

Hopefully this clarified.

@axolotl_stuff, axolotls do spawn naturally. "Axolotls spawn in underground water that is in total darkness with Stone, Granite, Diorite, Andesite, Tuff, or Deepslate below" (https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/caves--cliffs-part-i-out-today-java).

As Steve Hsu mentioned, axolotls do spawn in 1.17. They only spawn in water at most five blocks above overworld stone blocks, when the light level is 0. You can only find them in caves and in some ocean floors, as the Lush Caves biome is not part of 1.17.

I am unable to reproduce this issue in 1.17. Axolotls do indeed spawn and no issue seemed apparent.
