CanPlaceOn and CanBreak tags displayed in item tooltips do not respect rarity colors

Closely relates to MC-130145, MC-132199, MC-132201 and MC-139386. Finally getting around to reporting this.

Certain blocks and items have special name colors assigned to them to highlight rarity. These should be shown in all cases where the name of the block/item in question is displayed, however this ticket highlights an exception.

To reproduce: (a spawner is used for these examples, however any block with a rarity assigned will work)

  1. Obtain a spawner in the inventory, using commands, or by using Silk Touch in Beta 1.9 Prerelease 4 and upgrading the world, or however else you may desire

  2. Move the cursor over this spawner in the inventory and note the item name

  3. Obtain a block which can be placed exclusively on spawners: /give @s stone{CanPlaceOn:["spawner"]}

  4. Move the cursor over this stone and note the tooltip's utter disregard for the rarity value

Block names do not have rarity colours.

That's not true.  Several blocks have rarity colors.  The following blocks are affected:

  • Mob and player heads

  • Beacons

  • Impulse, chain, and repeating command blocks

  • All light blocks

  • Barriers

  • Structure blocks and voids

  • Jigsaw blocks

  • Spawners

  • The Dragon Egg

I would like to request that this issue be reopened.

Items have rarity colors, not blocks

Yes, but blocks are items (mostly).
