Why is there a structure that replaced my houses and progress in creative?

When I logged in to 1.8.9 in my minecraft world and joined back on 1.17.1 the part that my friends and I built got replaced with a monument and it took out most of the surroundings of the area and replaced with water ( Please help somebody it was a world for my birthday and I'm trying to get it back any way possible )
