Sneaking players produce footstep sounds for other players

The Bug:

Sneaking players produce footstep sounds for other players.

When a player moves around whilst sneaking, they will not produce footstep sounds and subtitles for themselves, but will for other players.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Get two players and label them "Player A" and "Player B".

  2. Get "Player A" to stand still and have "Player B" walk by them while sneaking.

  3. Take note as to whether or not "Player B" can hear themself producing footstep sounds.

  4. Take note as to whether or not "Player A" hears "Player B" producing footstep sounds.

Observed Behavior:

Sneaking players produce footstep sounds for other players.

Expected Behavior:

Sneaking players would not produce footstep sounds for all players.

I've refined the reproduction steps of this ticket, so reproducing this should be slightly easier. 🙂

Could you explain why you'd expect the footstep sounds to not play for other players? Aka, why is this a bug and not a feature request?

The footsteps do get silenced for the sneaking player's client, so it not doing the same for other clients is definely wrong.
It's mentioned in the description already:

When a player moves around whilst sneaking, they will not produce footstep sounds and subtitles for themselves, but will for other players.

Ah, thank you, I missed that part. That makes sense.

Hmm, there could be also the possibility that it should be the other way around, where the expected would be the footsteps sounds being played on the sneaking player's client seeing how it's hearable by other players.

Judging because there are similar issues like MC-98271.
