I can make tools out of cobblestones.
I can make tools out of deepslape.
I can make tools out of blackstone.
But why can't I make a piston and observe from blackstone and deepslape?
It is strange that only tools can be made from such a stone!

Ah, figures, so it's not the intention of the gameplay team to be possible after all.
In few other cases, where something is resolved as "WaI" it can be advisable to try anyways, especially if those bugposts were resolved many years ago, as the gameplay team and MC in general changed a lot, but in this case, those bugposts ampolive linked were resolved fairly recently, thus it's indeed fair to assume that it is still WaI for the gameplay team 🙂

I think I would rather call this a "logical inconsistency", to make it sound less like feature request 😉
If tools can be made from those deep stone types, it seems logical that anything that can be crafted from/with stone should, too; that would then be even more than pistons and observers .
However, Mojang could always say "this applies solely to items (like tools/weapons), *not *to blocks!" - we'll see!
