I was exploring a new world to test & observe performance and such and encountered this odd generation of a badlands mineshaft. From what I've seen, they're normally supposed to only spawn in caves and mountains, although this may be a feature I missed in the lengthy patch notes. Either way, it's an interesting discovery nonetheless. (Note: this might be a one-chunk glitch since I couldn't find it anywhere else in the world.) I also found some other possible world generation bugs that I'll report later.

Duplicate of MC-140613, which was later resolved as "Works As Intended".
This is completely different. Mine generated on land, not in a cave, while that one generated in a cave. This clearly doesn't work as intended.
Except that I still see mineshaft sections in those screenshots completely above the surface and not connected to the underground...
The lack of cave support is an intentionally added feature; they require non-air blocks above them in order to spawn. A check like that does not get added accidentally.
This has been the case since 16w20a, a 1.10 snapshot. I cannot provide the mojang.com changelog, as it redirects to the main page of minecraft.net nowadays.
