After updating to windows 11 my minecraft sounds are wonky

For some reason, after updating to the latest windows (11) my Minecraft sounds have been strange, every time I look upwards everything is muffled (eating noises, fall damage, anything really,) I screenshared my game to my friends on Discord and they were able to hear it as well, however they haven't experienced this on their own machine. I have tried everything to fix it, ranging from reinstalling Minecraft, reinstalling my nividia and audio drivers, and even factory resetting my PC, with no avail. If anybody knows how to fix this it would be much appreciated, I'm yet to find anything related to this on the internet so I'm not sure if its just me.. After reverting to windows 10 it fixes.

It happens on every version, I've tested 1.8, 1.12, and 1.17

I am experiencing something similar. The easiest way to reproduce it is - if you are flying with an elytra and you use a firework rocket to boost yourself. you get boosted but  you don't hear the sound of the rocket as you are facing away from the origin point of the sound but if you turn around and face that direction or use F5 to change you camera view, then you can hear the sounds.

I don't know if this could be considered a bug in the game or it is only some settings in Windows 11 that is causing this but it needs to be resolved.

I tested the same with fireworks (simple and explosion ones) and also food. If you look directly at the source of the sound, then you can hear it clearly and the more you face away from it, the lesser you can hear it.

You can still hear it but it is very faint.

I would like to report that I have found a fix for this.  Windows for some reason is not using the drivers properly. You just need to reinstall them, follow the steps from the screenshots attached for all the audio devices in the Sound, Video and game controllers tab, and restart your PC. (Choose Browse my PC instead of Automatic one and choose Let me Pick from existing ones)

Additionally, I would request the mods to mark this as invalid as it is not a Minecraft bug.

When I try to update them it says I already have the latest drivers, issue still occurs.

I think that happened because you might have used Automatic check for updates option. You need to Select [Browse my Computer for Drivers] and then [Let me pick from a list of available  drivers] and install the corresponding drivers for all the devices one by one. Check this video for clarification.

I tried your steps and it didn't work, but what did work was using windows sound troubleshooting after doing those steps, which is weird because I tried that last time and it didn't fix anything. It's all good now though
