Cutting down a jungle tree and letting the leaves naturally despawn may allow the vines to stay floating. These vines are in fact climbable. Upon placing a block behind them and removing them the vine will disappear if the block was behind the top vine. As I understand whilst they are floating they do not grow downwards.
