Villager taking professions slowly

I have a couple villagers and i was trying to get them to take a profession, but upon breaking the workstation and replacing it, the villager took up to 1 minute and 30 seconds to take the profession. Every time i broke the workstation the villager would face the back wall and refuse to take the job
There are no other workstations in the area and nothing around them to cause them to be confused. I experimented this multiple times to make sure it wasnt a mistake in the way i built my base.Β

It could be due to small tps or your server or problem with your OS. In anyways, this problem is not global and it is related to your OS.

Please attach a screenshot of this occurring while the F3 debug screen is enabled.

Btw, the world is loaded in 1.18 but the spawn chunks are in 1.17 if that changes anything.

Thanks for the response! OptiFine is a mod that changes the game's behavior, meaning that it may be causing this issue (and if that's the case, this would need to be something that the developers of OptiFine fix). This seems more likely to happen at night. The wiki claims β€” In Java Edition, villagers can change professions only while awake.

I moved some villagers out of the spawn chunks (which were generated in 1.17 vanilla) and put them in 1.18 chunks and the glitch was completely fixed. So I'm thinking that it has something to do with the coding of the villagers in 1.18. Was anything changed in the update? Is there anything I can do other than move my entire base out of the spawn chunks?

afaik the only thing changed was that "baby villagers are no longer attacked by illagers."

I did find a couple older issues that might explain, MC-231409, MC-153388.

Neither of those issues give me any insight into why the villagers will not have any problems in 1.18 generated chunks VS the chunks originally generated in 1.17. I know I'm not the only one having this problem too because i approached my community about it, and a couple of other people said that they have been dealing with the same thing.Β 

Cannot reproduce in 1.19.4. Please check if this is still an issue for you in the most recent version of Minecraft.
