My character's skin doesn't change in game. The pre-selected "Alex" skin always remains. I've already followed all the instructions to create and place my custom skin as your Support teaches, but it didn't work. I paid for the game to get this right and I need this issue resolved.

You did not even press save & use on the java edition / UWP (trash) launcher skin section.
This is probably not a issue, or you pressed cancel and didnt save & use it.
Once pressed save & use or just hover over your skin, and press equip.
