Due to the new snowAccumulationHeight gamerule, this issue has brought itself back up as something I view as needing some form of actioning.
Snow layers will lead to the grass block turning into dirt after 2 layers have spawned. This can sometimes take a little while, but it always happens eventually. This leads to a worse looking environment, where the dirt texture is harshly seen against the snowy grass and snow layers.
I think it'd probably work better if snow layers only turned grass to dirt after reaching 5, 6, 7, or 8 layers, filling the upper half of the block. Only 2 feels quite fast, and makes decorating using snowy grass quite difficult. 3 and 4 would probably need testing to determine if it should turn the grass to dirt or not, although I think 3 should be like 2 and 1, and not destroy grass, at least.
