after grinding in hardcore for a day, safely returning from the nether with blaze rods, i saved my game and intentionally rested before attempting to find a stronghold. upon booting up this morning, i noticed it was night, so i slept. went outside to toss an eye of ender and got blown up by a day creeper. this has made me so mad, i will not play minecraft again until this bug is fixed. what is the point of sleeping, if not to prevent this?

Creepers do not burn during the daylight like other monsters; Although, like other monsters, creepers cannot spawn in higher light levels meaning that having a suitably lit-up area may help to prevent this in the future
thanks for the feedback, snowisheres and sillytweet5, but i know how creepers work. i've been playing this game since v1.6.2. i'm saying the fact that a creeper can kill you during the day is a bug. period.
Well, it's not, it's intentional game design.
That they can only spawn in darkness doesn't mean they are to be passive in the light.
welp, i guess my minecraft playing days have come to an end. i haven't been able to win in hardcore since v1.14.4 and the game has been too op since the nether update. day creepers and the uselessness of unenchanted armour (two arrow kill by skeletons, two hit kill by baby zombies, one hit kill by endermen with full iron armour? come on!), as well as other annoying "intentional" aspects of the game have finally broken me. i get that hardcore should be challenging, but the game should also be fun. i no longer have fun playing. that day creeper ruined nearly a decade of enjoyment for me 😞

Creepers can spawn at night, they don't burn.
